Look what Alex’s class have been doing this week

Alex’s Class Blog.

Alex’s class have been looking at a fantastic book, called Journey.  We have been developing writing from this book, based around visiting a magical kingdom and exploring somewhere new and different.  We were also lucky enough to meet a real author last week – this was the perfect prelude to this week’s World Book Day!

In maths, we have been getting more and more independent, using our Scofield and Sims books to develop our number skills.  We have also been focusing on applying maths in practical situations, for example exchanging money in shop.

In PE, we have been getting more and more confident at using direction in our orienteering sessions.

In geography, we have been looking at the world and exploring where the different continents sit and some of their characteristics.  This has followed on really well from the work we did in science where we were looking at biomes such as desert, tundra and forest.

We have also been focusing on art in our wider curriculum, looking at the Terracotta Army, and creating our own figures from clay.

Finally, a lot of our class met up with Jennifer Essex who came back to Discovery to show us a video of the work that we had done last year on empowering children to have a voice through music and expressive arts.  There will be more exciting news to follow on this project!
